Unfortunately for many of us the paperless office has yet to materialize. Documents still need to be printed from our computers for a wide variety of reasons. But fortunately there are things that can be done to cut down on the amount of printing we do.

Use An Ebook Reader

If you have documents you need to read, why not consider downloading them to a laptop or even better an ebook reader like the Amazon Kindle? This way you can read them comfortably wherever suits you without you having to actually print them out.

Get An iPhone

Along similar lines, the iPhone comes with a docking station so that it can be plugged into your computer. Files can then be transferred across at will so that they can be read whenever and wherever suits you most.

Print Preview

How often does someone print something only to find out that it doesn’t look right? Maybe it’s printed sideways. Maybe something is missing off the bottom. For whatever reason we often have to print a document multiple times until we are happy with it. Cut down on this by using the Print Preview option before committing to printing a document.

Use Applications To Reduce Your Printing

There are a host of computer applications that will help you to print less. For example there are applications which will shrink down the size of pages allowing you to print 2 or more pages on a single piece of paper. If you have to print then programs like this will certainly cut down on waste.

Take Care Of Your Printing

This sounds so simple but if you do have to print something out then take care of it. Keep it flat. Keep it in a folder. The more you can do to protect it so you don’t have to reprint it later, the better.

Print Double-Sided

Lastly, if you are printing a document of two or more pages, consider printing it double-sided so that you only use half the paper you otherwise would have done.
